Hood River Basin – Streamflow & Canal Gages

Historical daily flow statistics for 13 gages

About the Hood River Basin

The Oregon Water Resources Department’s Hood Basin covers the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge from Cascade Locks east to The Dalles. Its main river, the Hood River, flows about 25 miles from the glaciers on the north and east slopes of Mount Hood to the Columbia at the city of Hood River; glacier melt gives it a milky summer color, and its water irrigates the pear, apple and cherry orchards of the Hood River Valley. The river is popular for whitewater boating and steelhead and salmon fishing, and the Columbia at Hood River is a world-famous windsurfing and kiteboarding area. East of the Cascade crest the land turns dry: Mosier, Mill, Fifteenmile and Eightmile creeks drain oak woodland, orchards and wheat country around Mosier, The Dalles and Dufur, and their late-summer flows are low. Fifteenmile Creek is one of the easternmost streams with wild winter steelhead. River Flow Planner covers 13 gages here: the USGS records for the Hood River at Tucker Bridge (since 1897), Mosier Creek and the Columbia River at The Dalles (since 1878), the Oregon Water Resources Department’s network of Fifteenmile and Eightmile Creek gages, and the East Fork Irrigation District canal.

What River Flow Planner shows for each gage
